Villa Il Padronale

Cortona 8 4 4
The structure is a piece of art by itself. The beautiful yellow patina of the outside walls, the old stones and the lemon trees in front of's unique! Il Padronale is a beautiful house set within the estate of one of the most prominent old families in Tuscany. Only ten minutes from the beautiful Etruscan walled city of Cortona, the origins of the house go back to the 14th century when the central part of the house, the tower, was built as part of the external defences of the city. The house itself has an interesting history, having been once owned by a Grandmaster of the Knights of Malta, and in 1868 Mons. Paolino Tribbiolli, a prominent Catholic clergyman, was born here. He played a key role in bringing the Catholic Church to India. The house enjoys magnificent views across the Valdichiana to the famed hilltop town of Montepulciano and beyond to Mount Amiata, on 80km distant . The new owners managed to buy this villa they fell in love with and decided to convert this place into a luxury holiday villa. End 2017 restoration started and was completed end 2018. This winter some final additions will be done and as of early Spring Il Padronale will be a welcoming place for its guests. Il Padronale sits half way on the hillside just below Cortona with wide views over the valley with farms and woodland little changed in generations. Sloping gardens terraced with local stone and green lawns and old trees guaranteeing ample shade are perfect for unwinding. The owner has thoughtfully placed the ‘al fresco’ areas in such a way to catch the best of the house at different times of day. The main dining area outside the house overlooking the pool has a covered roof to give protection during the warmest sunny hours from midday onwards and is the perfect place to enjoy the sunset during aperitiv. Inside, the interiors are simply yet beautifully furnished. The house has plenty of original features and nice pieces of antiques. The ground floor is floored in original clay and marble tiles and wooden beams are exposed throughout. The sitting room one plenty of space for stretching out with a good book on the two comfy sofas in front of the antique fireplace which is great for cosying up with a fire out of season. Upstairs the bedrooms, all air conditioned, are comfortable and furnished with pieces of antique furniture, pieces of art and fabrics. The bathrooms are decorated in neutral colours with travertine tiles, stone sinks and high-quality fittings. One of the bathroom has a free-standing tub as well. This is a real ‘get away from it all’ holiday or as the Italians say ‘dolce far niente’ (the sweetness of doing nothing). From the location of the house to the comfortable interiors, everything is designed for maximum relaxation. While away the days here reading your book by the pool, indulging in locally produced food and night time star-gazing or a stroll in the very charming town of Cortona. Umbria is a mere stone’s throw away, as is Lake Trasimeno. This house would be the perfect place from which to enjoy all the delights that both Tuscany and Umbria have to offer. For those who want to escape the hustle and bustle of everyday life there couldn’t be a better spot.
